Cyber Monday gift guide for every cook

I know it is practically a national pastime, but I just do not get shopping on Black Friday no matter how great the deals. Competing for parking spaces, navigating hordes of people in store aisles and standing in long lines at the cash register just isn't for me.

But Cyber Monday shopping is right up my alley

I do enjoy leisurely online shopping and Cyber Monday offers some great deals for stay-at-home shoppers. I love knocking off a dozen gifts without ever leaving the house. With Amazon Prime I receive most items in 1 -2 days and shipping is free. And by getting my shopping done early I can leisurely wrap them and spend my December doing the things I want to do.

What to buy online

The truth of it is you can pretty much buy anything online that you can buy in a store. What you are missing are the visual cues. When shopping online it is easier if you know what you are looking for.

Here are my suggestions for some great online purchases:

For the health-oriented cook:

Paderno Spiral Vegetable Slicer - $34.20*

This slick gadget turns vegetables into noodles. You may have heard of zoodles (zucchini noodles) but you can also turn carrots, beets, apples, potatoes and more into healthy noodles. These vegetable noodles are a great way to get more produce into your diet. Look for recipes using this tool on Something New For Dinner soon.

Stainless steel olive oil can - $35.99 & $39.99*

We all know that olive oil is an important part of the Mediterranean diet, but do you know how to keep your olive oil fresh and at it's nutritious peak? Olive oil degrades in light. This elegant can protects olive oil from harmful light and provides a convenient way to drizzle olive oil on salads, sandwiches, soups, pasta and more.

 Magic Bullet NutriBullet - $82.99*

My kids LOVE this device that makes nutritious  smoothies in seconds. Not only is it quick, but it allows you to add whole fruits and vegetables to your smoothies to maximize the nutrition. Perfect for high school, college kids, and anyone who has a busy schedule but wants to increase their fruit and vegetable intake.

For the budding bartender:

Sagaform rocking whiskey glasses - 6 for $24.99*

This set of 6 rocking whiskey glasses are fun and a great conversation piece.

Arctic Chill ice ball makers - $10.99*

Large single ice cubes are the best way to keep a cocktail cold without diluting it. Arctic Chill offers molds for oversized ice balls and cubes.

Cocktail muddler - $7.95*

A good nylon-tipped muddler is the secret to infusing cocktails with fresh herbs and fruits. This sturdy muddler by Arctic Chill is essential for making mojitos and many other handcrafted cocktails.

Moscow mule copper mugs - set of 4 - $114*

This is a gift everyone loves. These mugs make cocktails fun, keep them icy cold and they will last a life time. There are a lot of varieties of Moscow mule mugs, but these are my personal favorite.

For 20-30 somethings who are just setting up their kitchen:

Victorinox 8" Chef's knife - $39.95*

This is a great knife at a great price. Check out the Amazon ratings and reviews for this knife.  You can't go wrong with this knife.

Lodge 12" cast iron skillet - $24.99*

This pre-seasoned cast iron skillet will last a lifetime and actually gets better as it ages. A well-seasoned cast iron is the original non-stick skillet. Cast iron does require a little love when cleaning and always needs to be well dried to prevent rusting. I recommend this handy tool to keep your cast iron at its best:

Ringer cast iron cleaner - $17.99*

This chain mail scrubber is tough on grit but gentle to the precious seasoning in a cast iron pan. You will love it!

Oxo salad spinner - $29.99

For the freshest, healthiest salads I buy whole heads of lettuce rather than the pre washed packages. It really makes a difference in your salad. The trick to making a great salad is to wash, thoroughly dry and chill your lettuce.  This salad spinner does the trick.

Hostess gifts and stocking stuffers:

Spanish smoked paprika - $12.99

This amazing spice adds so much flavor to your food. I use it in paella, rice, potatoes, eggs, quiche, salad dressings, marinades, rubs. This paprika adds a delicious and addictive smokey flavor to your food. I recommend buying one as a gift and one for you!

Stonehouse Blood orange and Lisbon lemon olive oils - $14 -$20*

Why bring your host a bottle of wine that will be immediately consumed when you can give these amazing hand-crafted olive oils? Fabulous for salad dressings, to drizzle on cheese or finish grilled salmon or chicken. I love both the Blood orange and the Lisbon lemon. Next time you are in San Francisco make sure to visit their store at the Ferry Building.

 Maldon salt - $5.89*

Bamboo salt box - $8.99*

Historically salt was once a precious trading commodity and it still makes a wonderful gift. Once you use Maldon salt you will be hooked for life. Add this bamboo salt box for handy stove-side storage.

Pommery mustard - $22.93*

A French classic that has been served to kings since 1632, you will LOVE this mustard.

Kitchen investments:

Cuisinart food processors - $29.95$99 - $144.99 - $799 *

You know how much I love and use my Cuisinart food processors. This is the single best time-saving tool I have in my kitchen. They come in a range of sizes and prices to meet both your cooking needs and your budget, from the very practical Mini Prep, to an economical 7-cup model, to the larger 14-cup and finally, the professional 20-cup. There is a model that will work for just about everyone. See my post on how to use your food processor for more information.

 3 in one slow cooker - $129 *

This roomy slow cooker is big enough to handle a crowd or cook multiple meals at once. It also functions to brown and saute foods as well as steam them. The perfect gift for the busy family or professional who wants to make low-fuss healthy meals.

 Le Creuset Dutch oven - $272.90 - $329.95 - $359.95 *

My Le Cresuset Dutch ovens are my prized kitchen possessions. I use them for soups, stews, roasts, really anything that can benefit from cooking in a heavy-bottomed pan that conducts temperature evenly. I often give these awesome pans as wedding gifts. They come in 5 1/2 quart, and 7 1/4 quart and 9 quart sizes. My advice is to buy the biggest one your budget will afford.

Le Creuset cast iron grill pan -$149.95*

My friend Jean describes this pan as the most important pan in her kitchen. Great for indoor grilling and paninis.
