Thanksgiving floral arrangements
One of my favorite things to do for Thanksgiving is to make floral arrangements. I love to use a mix of brown, green and white roses for Thanksgiving. I like to keep the arrangements low so they don't interfere with conversation. Here is a step-by-step guide to making beautiful flower arrangements for your Thanksgiving table.

What you will need for three arrangements
- 1 block standard floral oasis
- 3 stemless red wine glasses
- 3 Hawaiian tea leafs (green, red or variegated)
- 2 dozen roses (assorted colors)
- 9 stems of coffee bean flowers (green or red or mixed)
- Thorn stripper
Steps
1. Submerge your oasis in a sink full of water for about 15 minutes until there are no more air bubbles.
2. While the oasis is soaking, strip your roses of thorns using a thorn stripper.
3. Cut the oasis into three equal blocks. Trim the edge off of each block so that it will fit in the wine glass.
4. Cut out the inflexible rigid part of the stem from the end of the tea leaf. Wrap each block of oasis in a tea leaf, starting with the cut end of the tea leaf, and drop the wrapped oasis into the wine glass. Fill glass with water.
5. Trim your flower stems to between 5" and 7" arrange them in the oasis. Make sure you add water each day so the oasis does not dry out.
Make in advance
I typically make my arrangements using tight rose buds a day or two in advance. By Thanksgiving the buds have opened up. If you have used fresh flowers, the arrangements should last about a week.
A note on the wine glasses
The stemless wine glasses work great for these arrangements. The only drawback is the water tends to etch the wine glass leaving a chalky ring. So once you have used the glass for a flower arrangement you may not want to use it for wine. I have a few wine glasses that I designate just for flower arrangements.
